Downtime

I had coffee with Nanci Griffith a long time  ago.  I was a finalist in the Kerrville Folk Festival songwriters competition  outside of Austin. As a finalist I became a Newfolk which is a kind of fraternity for songwriters. Because of this I got to hang backstage with the big boys and girls. She asked if I’d have a seat at her picnic table. Michael Johnson was there and Steve Gillette also. That year Lucinda Williams was a judge.  I did not win.

Nanci Griffith is probably best known for a song she did not write. Julie Gold wrote it. The song is “From a Distance.”

I like to hear the writers play their own songs. This is Julie Gold’s original version of the song she wrote.

 Enjoy! (and stay healthy!)
